The 10 Most Popular Flowers For Weddings:
With so many guests at a wedding looking at floral arrangements, choosing the right ones can be a difficult task.
It's all about choosing flowers that look nice and smell nice, but aren't so big and bright that they take away from the actual proceedings of the wedding itself. You obviously want people focused on the wedding couple!
We’ve got a list here of the top 10 most popular wedding flowers, many of which also happen to be on the list of the most popular flowers in general. These are the ones that have been most commonly used for weddings both big and small. With flowers of all shapes, sizes, colours, and smells, there are sure to be some so you’ll like for your big day.
1. Roses
Roses are the number one symbol of love worldwide, so they are rather perfect for a wedding.
People generally choose garden roses for weddings rather than standard roses, mainly because they have bigger and thicker petals, more petals, and they smell much more fragrant too. Just remember to remove those thorns, especially if you're going to be throwing your bouquet into a crowd of expecting brides!
Roses aren’t as expensive as people think, so if you’re on a budget you don’t need to drop the idea of having roses at your wedding.
2. Peonies
When it comes to flowers that look both attractive and romantic, peonies are some of the best of all. There are some good reasons why peonies make for such popular wedding flowers: they come in many different colours, they have beautifully ruffled petals, and they smell fantastic as well.
There are more than enough colours to match them to the rest of the wedding theme. What also stands out about peonies is that they are rather affordable. If you are putting together a budget friendly wedding, focusing on peonies is a great idea.
3. Dahlias
If you are having a fall wedding, dahlias should be in season. What is interesting to note is that there are some varieties of this flower that can be as big as your head, if not even bigger.
They also come in almost every single colour imaginable. Using some dahlias will certainly make for a beautiful looking bridal bouquet.
They’re also generally a less costly option, making them ideal for people working on a budget.
4. Anemones
Anemones are one of the best flowers for a wedding. These flowers do come in many colours, but one of the most popular types has white petals with dark black centres.
Therefore, if you're having a black tie wedding with lots of black and white, they will match perfectly.
5. Sunflowers
Although sunflowers are not the number one most popular choice for weddings, they certainly could be – with their bright yellow petals combined with their relatively dark centres they create some beautiful contrast.
If your wedding features a theme that includes a lot of yellow contrasting with dark colours, then sunflowers will match perfectly. Being both big and yellow, they brighten up a room really well. They represent good luck, long life, and positivity, therefore making them an ideal wedding flower.
6. Gerbera Daisies
If you are looking for a wedding flower that represents innocence, beauty, and purity, then gerbera daisies are the perfect option. Personally, we love the pink gerbera daisies that have jet black centres. These will certainly match that beautiful white bridal dress perfectly.
That said, gerbera daisies come in many different colours and colour combinations. Also, gerbera daisies are neutral in nature and don't generally have a very deep meaning per se, which means that most people like them. You won't find many people that dislike daisies.
7. Hydrangeas
If you are looking for a super popular wedding flower, look no further than the hydrangea. When it comes to flowers that have been historically popular for weddings, hydrangeas have been used for literally hundreds of years. They are absolutely synonymous with the wedding tradition.
They come in many colours and varieties, so they work well for very modern style weddings as well as for more vintage weddings. They also smell really nice, and match well with many other flowers, such as roses.
8. Orchids
If you want a flower that represents your virility and strength as a proud woman and bride, then the orchid is a fantastic option to consider for any wedding. As far as delicacy and beauty are concerned, orchids are some of the prettiest flowers of all.
It is surprising how a flower can be both strong and delicate, but somehow the orchid manages this very well. The orchid is absolutely one of the most eye-catching and breathtaking flowers out there. it makes for a perfect centrepiece for any wedding table.
9. Lilacs
If you are having a spring wedding lilacs should be in season. They are a bit lighter than lavender, but also have a fantastic deep purple colour. Lilacs are also available in white, but most people prefer the purple variety.
This is especially the case because the purple will add some nice contrast to that fantastic wedding dress you took so long choosing. Lilacs have a very natural shape, they smell sweet, and they make for the perfect bridal bouquet.
10. Snapdragons
Snapdragons are some of the most unique and beautiful flowers out there. Not only do they look good, but they also symbolize both strength and grace, rather perfect themes for a wedding with a strong and beautiful woman. They have super vibrant colours, a very interesting shape, and they smell fantastic too.
